Sick hold mints next PokerStars millionaire

You should know this much: the chips went in on the flop. There was no stopping it from happening. It didn't matter that there was a million dollar first prize on the line. It didn't matter that fate is cruel, life ain't fair, and the sun would still, we assume, rise tomorrow.

The chips were going in, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. How else was it going to happen when the flop came down 6♠3♦4♠ when the two remaining players vying for the million held these two hands?

Check^On123: 4♦3♥
Dzeferin0: 3♠5♠

On a relaxed day this would've happened in a $100 SNG where the winner would walk away with enough to buy a nice dinner for some friends. Today, it was the difference between winning $100,000 and $1 million.

Put yourself in the shoes of Germany's Check^On123. In a heads-up contest, it looked like he'd flopped a monster. He'd secured the chips of the third place finisher, woroms444, a Russian who was forced to console himself with the $100,000 third prize. Check^On123 had a leg up on Lativia's Dzeferin0, and two pair looked like a yellow brick road to Millionaireville.

But, yeah, Check^On123 looked up to see he was no longer the favorite in the hand. He was in that unenviable position of being ahead and behind at the same time.

And somehow he held.

It turned him into the next PokerStars Millionaire in the ongoing PokerStars Makes Millionaires promotion. And, for another consolation, Dzeferin0 banked $100,000.

A few minutes after his win, Check^On123 was still in shock.

"I'm a little shaky," he said. "Excited, but nervous."

Which is exactly how you would expect a man who just stumbled into $1 million to feel. We're giving him some time to get his head together, but in the meantime, let's all just revel in what will undoubtedly be the sickest hold of the day...if not the month.
