LAPT8 Bahamas: Eleven players, one trophy

A field of 736 entries for the first ever LAPT Bahamas Main Event played down to 183 players on Wednesday, and after a long Day 2 yesterday only 11 remain with hopes of capturing the first Main Event trophy of Season 8 of the Latin American Poker Tour along with a handsome $367,928 first prize.

During the wee hours last night in the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis play at last concluded with Josh Kay of Michigan ending the night with the chip lead among those who survived. Kay has some formidable competition facing him today, however, and historically-speaking we're looking at what will surely be the most stacked final table ever at the LAPT, with the potential of having EPT, WSOP, and WPT champions and not one but two recent PCA Main Event winners.

Kay returns to a stack of 2,541,000 today, with the 21-year-old Polish phenom Jose Carlos Garcia not far behind with 2,377,000.

Then comes 2013 PCA Main Event winner Dimitar Danchev (2,168,000), Mustapha Kanit (1,881,000) who has more than $2.5 million in live earnings plus many online scores, the tough Austrian Stefan Jedlicka (1,568,000), and Martin Finger (1,226,000) who has won an EPT Main Event, an EPT Super High Roller, and a WSOP bracelet.

And it doesn't stop there. Also challenging Kay will be 2011 PCA Main Event winner Galen Hall (875,000), WSOP bracelet holder Taylor Paur (800,000), New Jersey pro Jonathan Borenstein (487,000), Aaron Massey (400,000) who has more than $2.5 million in tourney earnings, and Massachusetts pro Kyle Frey (372,000).

However the early portion of play today goes, then, the final eight should be something to see -- and you'll be able to, too, with cards-up coverage of the final table on EPT Live!

We'll provide fuller profiles of the final eight when we get there. Cards go in the air at 12 noon today, so stick with us all day long as we discover who will be the first LAPT Season 8 champion and first LAPT Bahamas winner.
