MPC26: Year of the Rooster? It's still about them Dragons

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

For those who don't know, this is the Year of the Rooster but on the minds of many it's still about the Dragons as the Macau Poker Cup (February 3-19) enters its second weekend.

BABY DRAGON

The MPC26 Live Coverage schedule features four key events and the PokerStars Blog goes live on Friday (February 10) with the HK$8,000 Baby Dragon (2m GTD) event.

Last year, the Baby Dragon hit a growth spurt going from 346 runners (February 2016) to 575 (August 2016). Organizers expect that positive trend to continue and, when it's all said and done, the Baby Dragon may very well award a figure closer to HK$4 million than the advertised HK$2 million prize pool guarantee.

Amazingly, Derx Lai went back-to-back by claiming both of the 2016 Baby Dragon titles - earning him over HK$1 million from those two victories alone. The Hong Kong native has already confirmed his attendance in pursuit of a three-peat.

RED DRAGON

The legendary Red Dragon Main Event returns on Sunday (February 12) with reigning champion, and two-time slayer, Tom Alner widely expected to defend his title.

When Alner takes his seat at the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room the English pro may notice some changes to the Red Dragon -- which has taken its next stage of evolution: The buy-in has been upped from HK$12,000 to HK$15,000; the prize pool guarantee has increased from HK$6 million to HK$10 million; and, the start bank -- which previously issued 15,000 chips -- is now 20,000!

Two things that won't change are 1,000+ player fields and the successful slayer taking home the coolest trophy in poker.
