LAPT Florianopolis: Levels 7 & 8 updates (300-600, 75 ante)

8.40pm: Habernig leads at end of day one
With the last hand dealt it appears Austrian player Matthias Habernig is the chip leader with 130,325. A full report on the day will be on the blog shortly.

8.25pm: Victor defeated
We're in the last stages of the day. The most recent casualty looks to be Team PokerStars Pro Victor Ramdin who is no longer in his seat.

8.10pm: Bye bye Brenes
Felipe Ramos is up to 110,000 and close to the chip lead. Elsewhere the last of the Brenes's has departed. Humberto Brenes moved all-in with pocket nines, running them into Leandro Amarula's ace-king. It all looked good for Brenes until the river when an ace hit, sending him to the rail where his two sons were waiting.

8pm: Salles gone
Gualter Salles is out, moving in with K♥7♥ and running into the pocket fours of Amos Ben. No change on the board meant it was game over for Salles, who shook hands in front of the cameras with our man on the scene Alex Villegas, who is now assured minimal TV time.

7.55pm: Level up
Blinds are up. Just one more level of play today. Blinds are now 300-600 with a 75 ante.

7.50pm: Chip and a Chair
Team PokerStars Pro Gualter Salles epitomized that term during the recent World Series of Poker. After being left with a single yellow 1,000 chip, Gualter built his stack back up to 1 million and finished 117th in the main event.

He finds himself in a similar situation here after suffering a bad beat that's left him at 1,800. Here's what happened:

Salles raised to 1,050 from early position, and Eric Cabrera moved all-in from the button for 2,525. Gustavo Hess re-raised to 8,000 from the small blind and Salles re-shoved for 13,000 total. Hess called and we saw an old fashioned showdown

All three players were in the running to win the main pot, but the larger side pot was between Salles and Hess.

Hess showed 8♦8♣, ahead of Salles' A♠K♦ and Cabrera's A♣Q♥. But the lead wouldn't last long. The flop came Q♠7♦2♠, making Cabrera the main contender for the main pot.

"Now that's a miracle," said Brenes who was watching the hand intently.

The flop and turn brought running Jacks, giving Hess the sidepot and knocking Salles down to 1,800.

No stranger to the underdog/shortstack situation, Salles moved all in the next hand and took down the blinds, moving up to 2,800. Not quite a million yet, but he's headed in the right direction.

7.40pm: Luiz Cetl's it
Luiz Cetl just took his stack up towards the 55k mark, making a move with T♥8♥ against Fabiano Peschera with A♠T♠. The board ran out A♣6♠6♣9♠7♣ with betting all the way to the river where both players checked, Cetl taking the pot.

7.30pm: World Champ sidelined
World Champion Joe Cada is out. The Team PokerStars Pro's stack was getting short and he shoved with queens behind a bet and a raise. Of those bets and raises it was Javier Pinto doing the calling showing pocket kings. Needless to say absolutely nothing changed on the flop, turn or river. Cada out.

7.20pm: So so far Saho
With an opening bet of 950 from under-the-gun Antoinio Pereda called in seat one as did Angel Guillen on the button. Saho Norson did the same in the big blind.

The flop came 3♥J♥7♦.

Pereda bet 2,250 which was called by Guillen before Norson moved all-in for 10,325. The original bettor passed but Pereda called, going heads-up with Norson after Guillen opted to fold.

The Q♠ turn and 4♦ river sent the chips to Norson.

7.05pm: Served and volleyed
Apparently tennis star Mariano Zabaleta, who held the door open for us at breakfast this morning, is out at the end of level six, moving in with pocket queens against ace-king, only for a king to hit the flop.

6.55pm: Play resumes
Cards are in the air for level seven. Just this level and level eight to come before play ends for the day.
