LAPT Viña del Mar: Return of the king

What would you do if you won Player of the Year at the LAPT?

My guess is that you'd come to every single LAPT event the following season, mostly because that's the prize.

That's exactly what Season 4 Player of the Year, Pablo Gonzalez, is in the process of doing.

Gonzales came to Viña del Mar with his family late last week and has been enjoying everything the city has to offer. Gonzales says the highlight of his weekend was, by far, visiting Pablo Neruda's old house in the Casablanca Valley.

In addition to the Nobel prize-winning poet's home, the Casablanca Valley -- which is approximately 45 minutes from Viña -- is home to more than 13,000 acres of cultivated vineyards.

Aside from enjoying the weekend sightseeing with his family, Gonzalez enjoys the friendly treatment from locals.

"The people are really friendly with Colombians here," Gonzalez said, a big plus in his book.

But there are no friends at the poker table.

Gonzalez has been short for the past two levels, but he's now gone back to about average stack after a "good bluff."

Gonzalez hopes for a repeat of last year's POTY race along with an LAPT title, something that's still eluded him. The closest he's gotten was during last year's LAPT Lima, where he finished 3rd for $73,940.

But Gonzalez is also expanding his world view, hoping to hit a few EPTs in between this years Latin American Poker Tour.

We're still months away from figuring out who's in the lead for player of the year, so don't worry yourself too much with that.
